A pedestrian has been killed by a police car in East Sussex.

The victim, thought to be a man in his 40s, was hit on the A259 at White Rock, Hastings, on Wednesday evening.

Police and paramedics at the scene tried to save him but he died at the crash site.

Two police officers were travelling in the vehicle, which was responding to a report of a car being driven by a disqualified driver in the area.

One of the officers is reported to have been slightly injured in the collision.

A police spokesman said the matter is being referred to the police watchdog, the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).

"The full circumstances of the incident have yet to be established," he added.

Sussex Police have asked for anyone with information to call 101, quoting Operation Marshside.

The car believed to have been driven by the disqualified motorist has not been found.
