The Foreign Office has said it is investigating the claims.
A New Zealander was also found dead alongside the Briton, according to a Libyan security source.
A Foreign Office spokesman said: "We are aware of reports that the bodies of two foreign nationals have been found in Libya and are urgently seeking further information from the authorities."
The complex is co-owned by Italian company EniThe pair are said to have been found near the Mellitah oil and gas complex, about 60 miles west of Libyan capital Tripoli.
The facility is co-owned by Italy's Eni and Libya's state-owned National Oil Corp (NOC).
The killings come a month after a US teacher was shot dead in the eastern city of Benghazi, after which the Foreign Office said further attacks against Westerners were likely.
